Foreign nationals who submitted a permanent residence application under the Federal Skilled Worker Program, Canadian Experience Class, or Federal Skilled Trades Program become eligible for a Bridging Open Work Permit after receiving an Acknowledgement of Receipt from IRCC.

Applicants nominated under a non-employer specific Provincial Nominee Program stream, who submitted a permanent residence application and received an Acknowledgement of Receipt from IRCC, may qualify for a Bridging Open Work Permit if residing in Canada lawfully.

Candidates possessing a valid Certificat de sélection du Québec (CSQ), who submitted a permanent residence application under the Quebec Skilled Worker Program, may be eligible for a Bridging Open Work Permit while physically present in Canada with valid status.

Applicants under the Agri-Food Immigration Pilot become eligible for a Bridging Open Work Permit only after receiving approval in principle on their permanent residence application from IRCC, provided they maintain valid temporary resident status and continue meeting pilot-specific criteria.

Individuals applying under these pilot programs may be issued a Bridging Open Work Permit after IRCC grants approval in principle on their permanent residence application, subject to lawful presence in Canada and compliance with program-specific eligibility requirements.

Applicants under these now-closed caregiver classes, who submitted a permanent residence application before June 18, 2019, may qualify for a Bridging Open Work Permit based on IRCC assessment and maintenance of valid temporary resident status.

Applicants under the 2021 TR to PR Pathway, who received confirmation of eligibility, may be issued an open work permit valid until December 31, 2026, as per IRCC policy governing this temporary permanent residence pathway initiative.
